Jack Torrance is the central antagonist of Stephen King’s 1977 horror novel The Shining. He was a writer and recovering alcoholic who lived with his wife Wendy and their son Danny, who had a special psychic power known as “the Shining”. Jack took over as caretaker at the lonely Overlook Hotel, perched high on a mountain and built on an old graveyard. During the time he was there with his family, little by little he was controlled by a diabolical entity that also owned the entire hotel until he tried to kill his wife and son, who finally managed to escape.
