SCENE I – AT THOR’S PALACE IN ASGARD (HOME OF THE GODS)

(Thor wakes up in bed)

THOR: What a beautiful morning!  I feel so good today! (He stretches his arms and gets out of bed) I’ll put on my magical belt which makes me stronger! (He puts on his belt) … and my iron gloves, (he puts on his gloves) and with my wonderful hammer I’ll hit every mountain peak in the world and everybody will hear my thunder and lightning! …. Ha, ha, ha, the whole world will be afraid! (He starts looking for his hammer) Where’s my magical hammer?   (He keeps looking for his hammer) It disappeared!

(Sif enters)

SIF: Thor, what’s the matter? Our children are sleeping!

THOR: My magical hammer is missing!

SIF: That’s impossible!   No one has been here.  Did you look under the bed?

THOR: Yes, I have looked everywhere! (They look for the hammer.  They don’t find it) I told you, somebody took it. Please, try to find Loki.  Meanwhile, I’ll keep looking for my hammer.

(Sif leaves.  Thor keeps looking for his hammer. Loki enters, he has in his hand a feather robe)

LOKI: Your wife told me about the hammer.

THOR: Loki, you have to help me find the one responsible for the theft.

LOKI: Maybe one of the giants took it.

THOR: How can we be sure of that?

LOKI: There’s only one way to find out.

THOR: What’s your plan?

LOKI: I’ll put on the feather robe Freyja gave me, and I’ll travel to the land of the giants, to speak to their king.

(Loki puts on a feather robe)

THOR: Where’s my Hammmeeeerrrr!.

LOKI: Calm down Thor!

THOR: I can’t!  Hurry, go now and find it, and don’t tell anybody else that my hammer has been stolen.

LOKI: I won’t.

(Loki leaves)

SCENE II – IN THE LAND OF THE GIANTS – AT THRYM PALACE

(Thrym sits over a grave.  Loki enters)

THRYM: What are you doing here all alone?

LOKI: Thor’s hammer, Mjöllnir, is missing.  Do you know where it is?

THRYM: Ha, ha, ha, yes, I know where it is.  It is hidden eight leagues beneath the earth.

LOKI: How do you know that?

THRYM: Because I put it there.   And I will not give it back until the beautiful goddess Freyja comes here to marry me.  Ha, ha, ha, ha.

LOKI: She will never marry you!  Your ugly, you’re dirty, you smell terrible, and your teeth are crooked!

THRYM: Yes, she will!  Tell her to bring me her robe of feathers and her gold necklace, ha, ha, ha, ha.  Now, fly away and tell her I’ll be waiting for her.

(Loki leaves)

SCENE III – AT THOR’S PALACE IN ASGARD

(Thor, Odin, Sif, and Freyja are with Thor looking for the hammer.  Loki enters the room and takes off the feather robe)

THOR: Did you find my hammer?

LOKI: Thrym has it, and he will give it to you with one condition.

ODIN: What does he want now?

LOKI: He wants to marry Freyja.

FREYJA: No!  I refuse to marry him!

ODIN: That is impossible!

LOKI: Don’t worry. I have a plan.

FREYJA: I hope is a good one, because I am not marrying that disgusting giant.

LOKI: I suggest dressing up Thor in a bridal gown so he can take your place.  What do you think?

FREYJA: Well, it’s not a bad idea after all.

THOR: I disagree!

ODIN: Why?

THOR: Because it will make me look like a womanly coward.  That’s why!

LOKI: Thor, if you don’t do it, the giants will attack Asgard and we will lose the battle if we don’t recover your hammer in time.

ODIN: Loki is right.  You have to do it.  We are not sending Freyja over there!

THOR: Fine, I’ll do it.

FREYJA: Loki, give Thor the feather robe.

(Loki gives the feather robe to Thor.  Freyja takes off her gold necklace)

FREYJA: Put the robe on, and my gold necklace.

(Thor puts on the robe and the necklace)

THOR: Honestly, do you think I look like you?  I mean, look at my face.

(Sif takes out a veil and a dress from one of the drawers)

SIF: Cover your face with this veil.

ODIN: That’s much better.

SIF: Loki, you have to put on this dress.  You will be Thor’s maid.

THOR: That’s a good idea!

LOKI: Hmmm… fine.

(Loki puts on the dress)

ODIN: Let’s not waste any more time, you need to go.

THOR: Come on Loki, hang on to me, we are flying off!

(Thor and Loki leave)

SCENE IV – IN THE LAND OF THE GIANTS – AT THRYM PALACE

(Thor and Loki enter in the middle of a celebration.  There is a big table with plenty of food.  Thrym is talking to several giants)

THRYM: I was waiting for you Freyja, goddess of love and beauty! (Kisses Thor’s hand).  Come and sit my dear and enjoy the feast I have given in your honor. (Thor sits and starts to eat) Oh, I can see that you are really hungry.  Please, don’t eat too much. I mean, brides don’t eat that much at their weddings (Thor eats a big piece of meat). Are you going to eat all that meat?

LOKI: Please forgive my lady, she has been on a diet for many days and nights.

THRYM: Her eyes look strange, I might say, even terrifying.

LOKI: Please forgive my lady, she hasn’t slept for many nights because of her empty stomach.  (coughing) I don’t mean to be rude, but we want Thor’s hammer. That was the deal.

THRYM: You’re right!  A deal is a deal.  I’ll take my wife, and you will take the hammer.  (Yelling to one of the giants) Bring me the hammer and give it to my bride.

(One of the giants leaves and returns with the heavy hammer.  He gives it to Thor.  Thor takes off her disguise)

THOR: And this is my wedding gift! (There is thunder and lightning. He hits Thrym on the head and he falls to the floor, then he fights with the other giants who are defeated. He holds his hammer with both hands up in the air) Ha, ha, ha, ha, now with my hammer I’ll hit every mountain peak in the world and everybody will hear my thunder and lightning!  Ha, ha, ha, the whole world will be scared, ha, ha, ha, ha!
