The Silbon is a legendary creature from Venezuelan folklore. According to the legend, he is a vengeful spirit who appears as a tall and thin man with a goat’s head, and he is known for his eerie whistle that can be heard in the dead of night. The Silbon is said to roam the countryside, seeking revenge on those who have committed wrongdoings, particularly towards their parents. The legend of the Silbon is deeply rooted in Venezuelan culture and has been passed down through generations, serving as a cautionary tale to teach respect, filial piety, and good behavior towards one’s parents. It is a popular and spooky legend that continues to captivate the imaginations of young and old alike in Venezuela and beyond.

THE CURSE OF EL SILBON

Welcome, brave children, to the rugged countryside of Venezuela, where the wind whispers secrets and the trees bow to the moon. It is here that the legend of El Silbon, a vengeful spirit who wanders the night with a mournful whistle on his lips and death in his heart, is said to roam. And tonight, on this very stage, we bring this legend to life.

MIGUEL

GRANDMA

EL SILBON

Lights dim. A whistle echoes in the distance.

NARRATOR: Once upon a time, a young boy named Miguel lived in a small village nestled in the heart of the Venezuelan countryside. Miguel was brave and adventurous, but he had always been warned by his elders never to wander too far into the darkness, lest he falls prey to the curse of El Silbon.

MIGUEL: (curious) But who is El Silbon? What curse?

GRANDMA: (gravely) El Silbon is a vengeful spirit who preys on those who disrespect their parents or break their promises. He appears as a tall, thin man with a goat’s head, carrying a bag of bones, and he whistles a mournful tune that strikes fear into the hearts of all who hear it.

MIGUEL: (skeptical) That’s just a legend, Grandma. It’s not real.

GRANDMA: (warning) Ah, but Miguel, legends have a way of becoming reality if we don’t respect them. Remember the curse of El Silbon and always honor your parents.

Lights dim again. A whistle echoes in the distance.

NARRATOR: But Miguel did not heed his grandmother’s warning, and one night, as he was wandering through the dark woods, he heard the mournful whistle of El Silbon.

EL SILBON: (menacing) Who dares to disrespect their parents?

MIGUEL: (brave, but scared) I’m not disrespecting anyone. I’m just exploring.

EL SILBON: (angry) Exploring, eh? You are in my territory now, boy. And those who enter here must pay the price.

MIGUEL: (panicked) What price?

EL SILBON: (coldly) Your bones.

NARRATOR: And with that, El Silbon dragged Miguel into the darkness, never to be seen again. From that day on, the village was haunted by the mournful whistle of El Silbon, a reminder of the curse that befell those who did not respect their parents.

And so, brave children, we leave you with the legend of El Silbon, a cautionary tale of the dangers of disrespect and the power of the supernatural. Remember to always honor your parents, and never underestimate the legends that haunt the dark corners of the world. For in the rugged countryside of Venezuela, where the wind whispers secrets and the trees bow to the moon, there are forces beyond our understanding and curses that will continue to haunt us for generations to come.

Lights dim. The whistle echoes once more before fading into silence.
