THE GREEN CHILDREN THAT CAME FROM ANOTHER WORLD

This legend arose in the Middle Ages during the reign of King Stephen in a small town called Woolpit in the east of England. One day, a farmer was picking up the harvest when he heard some children crying. The sound came from a hole that hunters used to catch wolves. When he got closer, he saw two children hugging each other. They looked confused, and they trembled with fear. The little ones were brothers; A boy and a girl. They wore strange clothes made of unidentified material, but what impressed the peasant the most was that their skin was green.

The man approached them to try to comfort them. He spoke to them, but they did not understand what he was saying, and instead, they made strange sounds as if it were an unknown language. So he decided to take them to one of his neighbors to help them. The rich neighbor gladly received them, and after the children had calmed down, he offered them something to eat, but they refused even though they were hungry, so they went for several days without food. One morning while walking through the garden, they saw some green beans planted. They tore them out of the ground and greedily devoured them. The owner of the house realized that the children only wanted to eat green vegetables, so with the help of several inhabitants of the town, they managed to eat all kinds of food, and by changing their diet, they lost the greenish color of their fur. When the doctors saw this color change, they concluded that they suffered from a terrible disease due to a poor diet.

They slowly learned to speak English, and it was when they could communicate with others and tell them about the location where they came from; then the boy said: We live in the Land of San Martin. The sun does not exist there, but there is a weak light similar to twilight. Everything is green, including the people who live there. When asked how she got to England, the girl said: One day, my brother, my father, and I was feeding the animals in the field. Suddenly the animals separated, and some entered a cave. We followed them to get them out of there when suddenly we heard a loud sound similar to that of the bells of this town, and also we heard a sweet melody. I remember that while we were listening to that sound, we went into a kind of trance, and that was when the farmer found us inside the hole.

After this story, the owner of the house concluded that they were just lost children that no one ever looked for, so he adopted them and baptized them in a village church, giving the girl the name of Agnes. Unfortunately, the boy’s health began to decline, feeling increasingly weak and tired until he finally died of an unknown illness. The girl grew up strong and healthy, and later she got married, and the couple had a child.

No one knew where the Land of San Martin was, nor because the children were green. The only explanation to understand this mystery was that the children came to England from another world through an interdimensional door or that perhaps they came from an underground magical world, which would mean that, in reality, there are another human species somewhere where the sun does not shine.
