GUION:

Narrador: Una noche en medio de la selva reinaba un gran silencio, que fue roto por el estremecedor rugido del Tigre feroz. (Rugido ) Aquella noche en que rondaba un campamento de hombres situado a la orilla de la selva, había visto a un niño que le había despertado su apetito.

Tigre: ¡Mmm! me lo tengo que comer.

Narrador: El niño ya se había desplazado por una colina hasta la entrada de la cueva de los lobos. Enseguida que lo vio Mamá loba lo tomo muy delicadamente entre sus fauces y lo llevó con sus cachorros como uno más de la familia.

Mama loba: Trata de estar quieto y tranquilo porque el tigre cuenta con un olfato muy sensible y de seguro no ha de andar muy lejos de aquí.

Narrador: Al poco rato, el tigre se presento en la entrada de la cueva.

Tigre: ¡Mamá loba …te ordeno que me entregues al cachorro de hombre!

Mama loba: ¡Nunca!

Narrador: Entonces el tigre comprendió la furia con que protegía a sus cachorros. Prefirió retirarse jurando vengarse algún día.

Tigre: ¡Algún día me vengare de ti!

Narrador: La loba cuido al pequeño como otro de sus lobitos, lo enseño a aullar como un lobo (aullidos de lobos), y le dio todos los conocimientos que necesitaba. Cuándo el niño creció Mamá loba le dijo que se hiciera de nuevos amigos, lo llevó con ellos y le dijo.

Mamá loba: Ella es la pantera negra, el es el gran oso y el es el elefante valiente.

Narrador: La pantera, el oso, y el elefante fueron los nuevos tutores del niño y lo enseñaron a escuchar y a entender todos los lenguajes de la selva. (Sonido del oso, Barritar del elefante, Rugido de la pantera). También lo enseñaron a amar y respetar a todos los animales de la selva desde el más pequeño hasta el más grande. Ellos comenzaron a divertirse teniendo jornadas de estudio, así como ratos de recreo con otros animales (Jirafa, Cebra, Rinoceronte, Conejo, Aguila, Serpiente)

Narrador: El niño le pregunto al Águila.

Niño: Oye Águila … ¿como es la vida allá arriba en el cielo?

Águila: Maravillosa, me ayuda a visualizar algunas de mis presas para poder alimentarme.

Narrador: Y luego preguntó a la Serpiente.

Niño: ¿Cómo pasa el tiempo una boa cómo tú?.

Serpiente: Me gusta tomar el sol sobre las rocas y descansar mucho.

Narrador: Después pregunto a la jirafa.

Niño: ¿Qué haces tú para crecer tanto?

Jirafa: No lo sé, mis padres dicen que así somos las jirafas… pero por las tardes me reúno con mis padres a comer las deliciosas hojas de los árboles… que ningún otro animal alcanza.

Narrador: Le pregunto a la cebra.

Niño: ¿Tu qué haces para divertirte?

Cebra: Corro por toda la selva para que nadie me alcance… pero … ¡tú eres muy extraño y pequeñito!

Narrador: Le pregunta al rinoceronte.

Niño: ¿Por qué tienes un cuerno tan grande?

Rinoceronte: Porque me ayuda a defenderme de los animales más grandes cuando quieren atacarme.

Narrador: Por último se dirigio al conejo.

Niño: ¿Qué comes tu para saltar alto y ser muy rápido?

Conejo: Como muchas zanahorias y hago ejercicio todos los días.

Niño: Bueno ya es tarde tengo que regresar a la cueva…nos vemos mañana…que se diviertan y descansen.

Narrador: Así transcurrieron varios días. Cierta vez cuando el niño descansaba tranquilamente en la selva se le acerco un chango muy chistoso diciéndole.

Chango Chistoso: ¡Hola! ¿Quién eres?

Narrador: Sin esperar respuesta, el chango comenzó a dar marometas y brincos como loco para ganarse toda la atención del muchachito. El niño comenzaba a divertirse cuando llegaron más changos a su encuentro. Después uno de los changos tomando la mano del niño, comenzó a llevarlo por las lianas hasta llegar a la antigua ciudad abandonada, donde lo hicieron prisionero. Como el niño era de diferente color a los changos fue visto desde las alturas por el águila, quien a la velocidad de un rayo busco a los amigos del niño, para avisarles que había sido hecho prisionero por los changos. Todos los amigos del niño organizaron un grupo de rescate, y pensando en la amiga serpiente a quien temían tanto los changos, fueron en busca de ella.

Pantera: ¡Hola! ¿Hay alguien en casa?

Serpiente: Si, si aquí estoy. ¿Qué pasa?

Pantera: El niño ha sido atrapado por los changos, necesitamos de tu ayuda para salvarlo.

Serpiente: ¿Dónde está?

Elefante: En la antigua ciudad.

Serpiente: Vamos.

Narrador: Al llegar a la ciudad abandonada, descubrieron al pobre niño como prisionero de los changos. La Serpiente salió al encuentro de los changos y mientras los hacía correr de un lado a otro, el Oso y el Elefante liberaron al niño. Todos estaban festejando la victoria cuando inesperadamente se presentó el tigre feroz diciéndole al niño.

Tigre: ¡Al fin te vuelvo a encontrar y eres mío!

Narrador: El tigre de un poderoso salto se arrojo sobre el niño para devorarlo, pero la Pantera se interpuso a tiempo para salvarlo evitando que sufriera algún daño. El Oso, el Elefante y la Serpiente se acercaron silenciosa y lentamente, y con un rugido muy potente dijo la pantera.

Pantera: (Rugido) Eres más fuerte que cada uno de nosotros pero ahora somos cuatro contra ti.

Narrador: Los cuatro se lanzaron sobre Tigre, lo maltrataron tanto que este huyo de la selva, jurando no volver jamás.

Tigre: ¡Nunca regresare!

Narrador: A partir de entonces el niño y sus amigos vivieron en paz y fueron muy felices.

GUION:

Narrator: Once upon a time, in the middle of the jungle, there was great silence. Suddenly, the tiger roared furiously. (roaring) That night, he was watching a group of campers, and specially a little boy who made him really hungry.

Tiger: Hmmm… I have to eat that little boy… he looks so delicious!

Narrator: The boy started to walk away from the camping group, and headed to the wolves’ cave. As soon as Mother Wolf saw him, he took him inside the cave along with her cubs.

Mother Wolf: Try to be quiet…I’m sure that the tiger must be around here. I know he can smell you from a very long distance.

Narrator: A few minutes later, the tiger came to the cave.

Tiger: Mother Wolf… give me the little boy!

Mother Wolf: Never!

Narrator: The tiger knew how well protected the little boy was, so he decided to leave.

Tiger: Some day I’ll be back… I swear it!

Narrator: Mother Wolf took care of the little boy, and she even taught him how to howl like a wolf (wolves howling). When the boy grew up, she introduced him to some of the animals of the jungle.

Mother Wolf: She is black panter… he is the great bear… and he is the brave elephant.

Narrator: The panter, the bear, and the brave elephant became the little boy’s tutors. They taught him to listen and understand all the languages of the different animals of the jungle. (Sound of the bear, the elephant, and the roaring of the panter). They also taught him to love, respect, and to have fun with the other animals, the Giraffe, the Zebra, the Rhinoceros, the Rabbit, the Eagle, and the Snake.

Narrator: One day the boy asked the Eagle.

Boy: Listen, Eagle… how is life over there in the sky?

Eagle: Wonderful! … from over here I can see some of the animals I will hunt to live.

Narrator: Then he asked the Snake.

Boy: How do you spend your time?

Snake: I like to lie over the rocks and rest.

Narrator: Next, he asked the Giraffe.

Boy: What do you do to grow up so much?

Giraffe: I don’t know. My parents say that’s the way we are… and at night we get together to eat all the delicious leaves from the trees… that nobody can reach!

Narrator: He also asked the Zebra.

Boy: What do you do to have fun?

Zebra: I run throughout the jungle… Nobody runs as fast as I do! … But you look so strange…. And you’re so small.

Narrator: He asked the Rhinoceros.

Boy: Why do you have that big horn?

Rhinoceros: It’s my protection from the big animals who want to harm me.

Narrator: Finally, he asked the Rabbit.

Boy: What do you eat to jump so high, and run so fast?

Rabbit: I eat many carrots, and I excercise every day.

Boy: Well, it’s late and I have to go back to the cave. I’ll see you all tomorrow… have fun and have a good night sleep.

Giraffe, Zebra, Rhinoceros, Rabbit, Eagle, Snake: Good night… take care!

Narrator: A few days later, while the boy was taking a nap in the jungle, a very funny monkey approach him.

Funny Monkey: Hello… who are you?

Narrator: Without waiting for an answer, the monkey started to jump up and down just to get the boy’s attention. Then more monkeys came, and took him to the abandoned city where they made him prisoner. The eagle saw what was happening, and he quickly went to see his friends, who immediately organized a rescue team.

Giraffe: I have an idea!

Rabbit: What is it?

Giraffe: The monkeys are scared of the snake… we have to go see her!

Narrator: So they went to see the Snake.

Panter: Hello… anybody home?

Snake: Yes, yes, I’m here. What’s wrong?

Panter: The monkeys took the boy prisoner, and we need your help to save him.

Snake: Where is he?

Elephant: In the old abandoned city.

Snake: Let’s go!

Narrator: When they arrived to the city, the Snake chased the Monkeys, while the Bear and the Elephant set free the poor little boy. As they were celebrating, the Tiger suddenly appeared.

Tiger: At last I found you! Now you are mine little boy!

Narrator: The tiger furiously jumped over the boy, but the Panter got in the middle and saved the little boy. Then the Bear, the Elephant, and the Snake approached silently, and the Panter with a tremendous roaring said.

Panter: (roaring) You are stronger than each one of us… but take a closer look… there are four of us… against you!

Narrator: At that moment the four of them jumped over the tiger, but unfortunately he managed to escape to the jungle promising never to come back.

Tiger: I’ll never come back! I swear it!

Giraffe, Zebra, Rhinoceros, Rabbit, Eagle, Snake: Ha, ha, ha, ha… good-bye Tiger!

Narrator: And so the boy and his friends finally lived happily in peace.

GUION:

(La estatua del Príncipe Feliz se encuentra sobre un pedestal. Su traje y su corazón son de oro. Sus ojos son dos zafiros azules. En la espada tiene un enorme rubí. La multitud pasa frente a la estatua, la ven y salen de escena.. Una madre y su hija se detienen a admirarla).

Niña: Mira mama, que hermosa estatua. ¿Cuál es su historia?

Mama: Esa estatua del príncipe ha estado aquí por muchos anos, y la gente cuenta varias historias de el. No se si haya existido en realidad o sea solamente una leyenda.

Niña: Cuéntame lo que sabes.

Mama: Se dice que fue un príncipe que vivía en un gran castillo que estaba en lo alto de una montaña. Su padre, el rey, era muy querido por sus súbditos debido a su bondad, y ya que su riqueza era tan grande, la compartía con todos por igual. Tanto el rey como el príncipe eran queridos y respetados por su pueblo… ¡Y eran tan felices! ¡Nunca había habido otro rey como el!. Se dice que un día el rey enfermo y murió repentinamente, y que el príncipe al no poder soportar su dolor, murió al poco tiempo.

Niña: Oh, que triste historia. ¿Y quien hizo esa estatua?

Mama: La gente del pueblo reunió todo el oro y las piedras preciosas que el mismo rey les había regalado, y le hicieron esa estatua a su hijo como una forma de agradecimiento por todo lo que el había hecho por ellos. Y a la estatua la nombraron “El Príncipe Feliz”.

Niña: ¡Pues más que Príncipe Feliz…parece un ángel! ¡El también debió haber sido tan bueno como su padre!

Mama: Eso dicen. Vamos hija, que es tarde.

(La mama y su hija salen de escena.. Llega una golondrina y se coloca debajo de la estatua).

Golondrina: Este viaje migratorio hacia Egipto es demasiado largo y ya estoy muy cansada. Descansare un poco sobre esta estatua y mañana continuare mi viaje.

(La golondrina siente que le caen dos gotas de agua sobre el pico).

Golondrina: ¡Vaya, y ahora empezara a llover!

(Siente que caen más gotas de agua y voltea hacia el cielo).

Golondrina: Que raro… si el cielo esta bastante claro. ¿De donde están cayendo esas gotas de agua?

(Voltea a ver los ojos de la estatua, y descubre que esta llorando).

Golondrina: ¿Por qué lloras? … ¡Si tu eres el Príncipe Feliz!

Príncipe Feliz: Lloro porque cuando yo era humano vivía en mi palacio lejos de la preocupación… lo tenia todo que no veía la fealdad, la miseria, la tristeza, ni las lagrimas… por eso la gente me llamo el Principe Feliz. Y ahora desde aquí puedo comprobar el sufrimiento que existe y que siempre existió fuera de los muros de mi castillo.

Golondrina: Pero dicen que tu padre siempre ayudo a su pueblo.

Príncipe Feliz: ¡Mi padre fue un gran hombre! Los bienes y las riquezas que el proporcionaba los ayudaba a remediar su sufrimiento. Y ahora desde aquí yo quiero hacer lo mismo, pero no puedo, estoy pegado a este pedestal… no puedo moverme. ¡Soy solo una estatua, y no necesito estar recubierto de oro y de piedras preciosas… a mi no me sirven para nada!

Golondrina: ¿Te puedo ayudar en algo?

Príncipe Feliz: Si… mira al final de esta calle veo todos los días a una mujer bordando el vestido que lucirá una bella dama en el baile del Palacio. Su hijo llora, enfermo, en la cama, y ella sólo puede darle agua, porque es muy pobre. Golondrina, por favor, llévale el rubí de mi espada.

Golondrina: Hare lo que dices, aunque retrase mi viaje .

(La golondrina toma el rubí de la espada y sale de escena. La golondrina regresa y se coloca debajo de la estatua).

Golondrina: Hice lo que me indicaste. La costurera no podía creer cuando deje caer el rubí frente a su ventana. Lo tomo en sus manos… lloro… y fue a abrazar su hijo. ¡No sabes que gran satisfacción sentí!

Príncipe Feliz: Quédate por favor una noche mas conmigo, así podrías llevar uno de los zafiros de mis ojos a aquel escritor que vive en esa casa. El está hambriento y no tiene leña para calentarse, está tan débil que quizá no pueda entregar a tiempo la obra al director de teatro.

Golondrina: Pero yo ya debería estar en Egipto, junto a las pirámides, viendo a los leones bajar a beber al Nilo, pero haré lo que tú deseas.

(La golondrina toma uno de los zafiros de los ojos del príncipe y sale de escena. La golondrina regresa).

Príncipe Feliz: Gracias por hacerme este gran favor.

Golondrina: No sabes lo feliz que me sentí cuando llegue a su casa. ¡El hombre parecía desesperado!… Cuando vio que yo coloque el zafiro en su ventana, se levanto rápidamente, lo tomo, y salio corriendo.

Príncipe Feliz: Ahora necesito que entregues el otro zafiro de mis ojos.

Golondrina: Pero príncipe, si tomo el otro zafiro…¡te quedarás ciego!

Príncipe Feliz: Eso no importa. Hazlo por favor.

Golondrina: ¿A quien debo llevarlo?

Príncipe Feliz: En la plaza hay una niña descalza y sin abrigo, que vende fósforos. Se le han caído en el lodo y ahora no los puede vender. Su padre se enojara si no lleva el dinero a casa…. Y yo no necesito este zafiro… ella lo necesita mas que yo.

(La golondrina toma el zafiro del otro ojo del príncipe y sale de escena. La golondrina regresa).

Golondrina: Oh, príncipe hice lo que me dijiste. Pobre niña… la encontré sentada en el suelo llorando. Me coloque frente a ella, me vio y me acaricio. Cuando vio que en mi pico yo llevaba ese gran zafiro, lo tomo y lo miro. Entonces yo volé y vi cuando se levanto y me siguió con su mirada.

Príncipe Feliz: ¡Gracias! ¡He cumplido como lo hacia mi padre!

Golondrina: Príncipe, ahora que estás ciego… ¡No puedo dejarte! … Voy a quedarme a tu lado para siempre.

Príncipe Feliz: Entonces ahora harás lo último por mí. Quiero que arranques las láminas de oro que recubren mi cuerpo, y que las repartas entre los que tienen hambre o frío.

Golondrina: Pero … no quiero que mueras.

Príncipe Feliz: Entiéndelo… Mi pueblo me hizo una estatua con los mismos regalos de mi padre… era su voluntad que el oro fuera de ellos… y yo quiero regresárselos. Empieza ahora mismo, por favor.

(La golondrina empieza a quitar las láminas de oro de la estatua y las entrega a unos hombres y mujeres pobres que pasan frente a la estatua).

Hombre Pobre 1: ¡Oh… ya podremos comer!

Hombre Pobre 2: ¡Podremos comprar leña!

Mujer Pobre 1: ¡Mis hijos no pasaran frío este invierno!

Mujer Pobre 2: ¡Mi esposo tendrá la medicina que tanto necesita!

Mujer Pobre 3: ¡Gracias a Dios! ¡Esto es un milagro!

(Los hombres y las mujeres pobres salen corriendo y gritando de felicidad. La golondrina cansada se coloca debajo de la estatua del príncipe y besas sus pies).

Golondrina: Ya todo esta entregado… ahora dormiré un poco…estoy muy cansada.

Prince Feliz: Hazlo, buena amiga… te lo mereces.

(La golondrina cierra sus ojos y muere. El alcalde, su guardia y una multitud entran a escena y ven la estatua).

Alcalde: Hay una golondrina muerta junto a la estatua.

Guardia: ¡Ya no está el rubí, ni los zafiros, ni las láminas de oro que la recubrían!

Alcalde: Así ya no sirve para nada. Destruyámosla y tiremos sus pedazos a la basura, junto con la golondrina.

(El alcalde, su guardia, y la multitud toman la estatua y la golondrina y la destruyen dejando los pedazos en el suelo. El corazón de la estatua y el cuerpo de la golondrina quedan juntos. El alcalde y la multitud salen de escena. Entra un ángel).

Ángel: ¿Donde encontrare las dos cosas mas bellas que yo haya visto para llevárselas a Dios… como El me lo pidió?

(El ángel se tropieza con los escombros y mira el corazón de oro del príncipe y el cuerpo inerte de la golondrina, y los toma en sus manos).

Ángel: Oh, esto es lo más bello que he visto… se lo llevare a mi Señor.

(El Ángel sale de escena)

The Happy Prince

SCRIPT:

(The statue of the Happy Prince is on a tall column. He’s all covered in gold. He has a gold heart. His eyes are two blue sapphires. There’s a ruby in his sword. Crowd passing by, look at the statue and leave the scene. A mother and her daughter stop to admire it)

Girl: Look mother, what a beautiful statue! Do you know who he is?

Mother: That is the statue of a Prince… it has been here for many years… people tell different stories about him. I don’t know if he was real, or if he’s only a legend.

Girl: Tell me what you know.

Mother: People say that he was a Prince who lived in a castle on top of a mountain. His father, the king, was a very generous and kind man, who shared his fortune with all of his people… that’s why everybody loved him.. and the prince, too… They were very happy! There hadn’t been another king just like him. They say, that one day the king got sick and died suddenly, and the Prince who was so sad and desperate, died shortly after his father’s death.

Girl: Oh, that’s a very sad story. Do you know who made the statue?

Mother: People collected all the gold and precious stones given to them by the king, and they made the statue of the Prince. They were so grateful for what the King did for them, and they named the statue The Happy Prince.

Girl: Well he doesn’t look like a Prince… He looks like an angel! I think he was as kind as his father!

Mother: That’s what people say. Let’s go… it’s late.

(Mother and daughter leave the scene. A swallow arrives and lies between the feet of the statue)

Swallow: This is really a beautiful golden bedroom! … Oh…this trip to Egypt is too long and I’m very tired! I’ll rest here for a while and tomorrow I will continue my journey.

(Two water drops fall on him)

Swallow: Oh… it’ starting to rain!

(More water drops fall on him. He looks at the sky)

Swallow: This is strange… the sky is clear. Where are those water drops coming from?

(He looks at the statue. The statue cries)

Swallow: Why are you crying? Who are you?

Happy Prince: I am the Happy Prince.

Swallow: If you are the Happy Prince…Then why do you cry!

Happy Prince: I cry because when I was alive and had a human heart, I never worried about anything… I didn’t know what tears were… that’s why people called me the Happy Prince! And now that I’m here on top of this column, I can see that there’s suffering and misery in my kingdom.

Swallow: But what can you do about it?

Happy Prince: My father was a great man! Everything my father gave his people, including the gold, helped them to have a better life… without suffering. And now, I want to do the same thing… but I can’t… I can’t move. I’m only a statue, and I don’t need to be covered in gold and precious stones!

Swallow: Is there something I can do for you?

Happy Prince: Yes… At the end of the street, there’s a poor house. One of the windows is opened and through it I can see a woman seated at a table. She’s embroidering a dress that a lovely lady will wear at the palace ball. Her son, is in bed.. hungry and sick, but she can only give him water. Please, little swallow, take her the ruby of my sword.

Swallow: I’ll do what you want, even if my friends are waiting for me in the Nile.

(The swallow takes the ruby from the sword and leaves. He returns and lies between the feet of the statue)

Swallow: I did as you told me. The woman was surprised when I left the ruby on her window. He took it in her hands… she cried… and hugged her son. I felt so satisfied!

Happy Prince: That is because you have done a good action. Stay with me tonight, please, and be my messenger.

Swallow: Do you want me to do something else for you?

Happy Prince: Yes! Please, take one of my sapphires to a writer that lives in that house over there. He is hungry, and cold. He is trying to finish a play for the Director of the Theatre, but he is too cold and hungry to write any more.

Swallow: What will he do with the sapphire?

Happy Prince: He will sell it to the jeweller, and buy food and firewood, and finish his play.

Swallow: I can’t do that … I should be in Egypt by now… admiring the pyramids, and watching the lions drinking water from the Nile.

Happy Prince: Little swallow …do as I command you.

(The swallow takes the sapphire from one of the statue’s eyes and leaves. The swallow returns)

Happy Prince: Thank you, little swallow.

Swallow: Yo don’t know how happy I felt when I arrived to his house. The man looked so desperate… When he saw the sapphire I left on his window, he rapidily stood up… he took it in hands… and left the house in a hurry.

Happy Prince: Now I need you to take the other sapphire …

Swallow: But Prince, if I take out the other sapphire … you will be blind!

Happy Prince: It doesn’t matter. Do it, please.

Swallow: Where should I go?

Happy Prince: In the Square below, you will find a little match-girl. She’s wearing no shoes and has no coat. Her matches fell in the mud and now she can’t sell them. Her father will be angry at her if she doesn’t bring home some money… and I don’t need this sapphire… she needs it more than I.

(The swallow takes the other sapphire from the statue’s eye and leaves. The swallow returns).

Swallow: Oh, Prince, I did as you told me. Poor little girl… I found her crying lying on the ground. I stood in front of her, and when she saw the sapphire I had in my beak, she touched me gently.. then she took it. I flew away and I saw when she stood up and looked at me.

Happy Prince: Thank you!

Swallow: Prince, now that you are blind… I can not leave you… I’ll stay with you forever.

Happy Prince: Then, there’s one more thing you should do for me. I am covered with fine gold. You must take it off, leaf by leaf, and give it to the poor people… those who are hungry and cold.

Swallow: But… I don’t want you to die.

Happy Prince: Please understand… my people built me a statue with all the gold and precious stones given to them by my father… this is their gold… I want to give it back to them. Start right now.

(The swallow takes off leaf after leaf of the gold and gives it to the poor men and women passing by)

Poor Man 1: Oh… we have bread now!

Poor Man 2: We can buy firewood!

Poor Woman 1: My children will not be cold this winter!

Poor Woman 2: My husband will have his medicine!

Poor Woman 3: Thank you God! This is a miracle!

(The poor men and women leave running and shouting joyfully. The swallow is tired. He lies between the prince’s feet)

Swallow: I did as you told me… now I will sleep for a while… I’m very tired.

Happy Prince: Rest, my good friend… you deserve it.

(The swallow closes his eyes and dies. The Mayor, his guard, and the crowd enter and look at the statue)

Mayor: There’s a dead swallow lying beside the statue.

Guard: The ruby, the sapphires, and the gold that covered the statue are not there!

Mayor: The statue is worthless. Let’s destroy it, and throw everything to the trash… including the swallow!

(The mayor, his guard, and the crowd take the statue and destroy it. They leave pieces of the statue and the heart on the ground. The prince’s heart and the swallow’s body remain together. The mayor, his guard, and the crowd leave. An angel enters)

Angel: Where am I going to find the two most beautiful things I have seen… as God asked me to.

(The angel sees and takes in his hands the gold heart and the dead swallow).

Angel: Oh, these are the most beautiful things I have seen here on earth… I’ll take them to God.

(The Angel leaves)

The Seed

SCRIPT:

Narrator: Once upon a time there was a king, who had only one daughter. One day he said.

King: When are you going to get married?

Princess: I don`t know father.

King: Is there someone special you like?

Princess: No, father. But I really would like to marry someone kind and honest.

King: Leave that to me.

Princess: Do you have something in mind?

King: Yes, you just wait.

Princess: Very well, father.

Narrator: Next day the king decided to hold a competition between every young man in the kingdom. Messengers were sent out to all the far reaches of the kingdom proclaiming the news. Finally, one day they were all gathered in the palace.

King: In my hand I hold a bag of beautiful flower seeds. I will give one of these seeds to each one of you. Once you have one of these seeds you must take it away and care for it for the next six months. Then you should bring the full grown flower back to me.

Young Man 1: What for?

Young Man 2: What will we get?

King: The person that brings to me the most beautiful flower, will marry my precious daughter.

Young Man 3: Oh!

Young Man 4: You can count on me!

Young Man 5: I will bring the most beautiful flower you have ever seen!

Young Man 6: Don`t be so sure of that!

King: Silence! Just remember, I`ll be here in six months… you can go now.

Narrator: They all went home. During the next six months the princess waited patiently for that day to come. Finally the palace gates were opened, and the young men entered to see the king. Each one of them was carrying a flower in a pot.

King: Please, get in line, and I will take a look at your pot.

Narrator:The king took a look at each pot.

Young Man 1: Look your majesty! Mine is the most beautiful!

King: Sure, it is.

Young Man 2: Please, smell this flower!

King: It surely smells nice.

Young Man 3: Watch mine… isn`t it exotic?

King: If you say so.

Narrator: Suddenly the king noticed a young man who was carrying an empty pot. He approached him and put his hand on the young man`s shoulder.

King: What is your name, young man?

Daniel: My name is Daniel, your majesty.

King: Why do you look so sad? Aren`t you happy to be here, just like the others?

Daniel: Oh, yes I am, your majesty… it’s just that…the seed you gave me didn`t grow.

Young Men: Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Young Man 4: Ha, ha, ha… he brought an empty pot!

King: Don`t feel ashamed, please, Daniel.

Daniel: I really took good care of the seed you gave me, your majesty. I did everything I could…more sun, less sun, more water, letting the pot dry out. Nothing worked! I am sorry, but I have nothing to show you, but a pot full of dirt… I have no hope of marrying the princess.

King: Look! My daughter is here.

Princess: Father, have you reached a decision?

King: Yes. Everybody listen!… This man you see here by my side, will marry my daughter.

Young Man 4: But look at his pot! There is nothing there!

King: I don’t know where you got the flowers from, but it wasn’t from me!

Young Man 5: What do you mean?

King: I mean that those seeds were dead! I gave all of you boiled seeds that would not grow. All of you, except Daniel, have brought beautiful flowers. When you found out that the seed would not grow, all of you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Daniel was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he will marry my daughter!

Princess: Daniel, you are sincere and honest, and those are the qualities my husband and a good king should have. I will be happy to marry you.

(La rana 1, 2, y 3 están en el estanque. Se acerca la rana 4)

Rana 1: ¿Donde estabas?

(La Rana 4 parece asustada)

Rana 4: ¡No van a creer lo que me dijeron!

Rana 2: ¿Quienes y que te dijeron?

Rana 4: ¡Los changos! Me dijeron que …

Rana 3: ¡Detente! Estoy tratando de dormir.

Rana 4: Es mejor que escuches… ¡Esto es muy importante!

Rana 1: ¿Que es, habla de una vez?

Rana 4: ¡Los changos me dijeron que el Sol decidió cambiar su curso… y que solo iluminara la tierra cada seis meses!

Rana 3: ¿Y … Cual es el problema?

Rana 4: ¡Que no entiendes! ¡Vamos… despierta… despierta…. Piensa!

Rana 1: Yo ya entendí… ¿y que pasara el resto del año?

Rana 4: ¡Oh, temo decirles esto!

Rana 2: Oh…oh… presiento que algo terrible nos pasara.

Rana 3: No seas pesimista… tal vez no es verdad.

Rana 4: ¡Lo es! ¡Tienen que creerme!

Rana 1: Bueno… ¡cuéntanos el resto de la historia!

Rana 3: Si… para poder dormirme de nuevo!

Rana 4: Bueno… el resto del año estará oscuro y frío.

Rana 1, 2, y 3: ¿Oscuro y frío?

Rana 4: ¡Si! Si no hay sol… no habrá luz… ni calor… y nuestra Tierra se enfriara!

Rana 2: Mmm…… esto no suena nada bien… nuestros estanques, lagos, y ríos se secaran… y no sobreviviremos.

Rana 1: ¿Que podemos hacer?

Rana 3: ¿Qué será de nosotros?

Rana 4: Bueno… no podremos disfrutar de nuestra vida de comodidad. No habrá insectos… y tú sabes lo que eso significa… ¿verdad?

Rana 3: ¿Quieres decir que no habrá comida?

Rana 1: Así es… no habrá agua… ni comida… ni vida.

Rana 3: ¡Ni vida!

Rana 2: ¡No es justo!

Rana 4: ¡Debemos quejarnos!

Rana 1: ¡Hagamos una marcha de protesta contra el Sol!

Rana 2: ¿Reunimos a todos los animals del bosque… o solo la haremos nosotros?

Rana 1: Solo nosotros… ¡a mi no me importan los demás! ¡Que ellos se la averiguen como puedan!

Rana 3: Es verdad… ¡olvídate de ellos!

(Las ranas escuchan una voz y ven hacia el cielo)

Sol: ¿Se están quejando porque ya no vivirán cómodamente?

Rana 1, 2, 3, 4: ¡Si!

Sol: ¿Se están quejando solo por ustedes… porque quieren que yo los ilumine y caliente la Tierra durante todo el año?

Rana 4: Si… solo por nosotros…no por nadie más!

Rana 3: ¡Es tu trabajo mantenernos calientes y cómodos!

Rana 1: ¡Así es que haz tu trabajo!

Sol: Regresare cuando dejen de ser tan egoístas… cuando dejen de pensar solo en ustedes… y cuando empiecen a interesarse por los demás.

(El Sol se aleja. Las ranas empiezan a llorar)

Rana 1, 2, 3, 4: ¡No! ¡No te vayas… no nos dejes… por favor… regresa!

SCRIPT:

(David hunts in the forest. He sees a deer trapped in a pond)

David: I never thought it was going to be so easy to hunt a deer!

Deer: Please, don’t hurt me… take me out of here!

David: Oh, well… I’m not in a hurry… I’ll let you go.

Deer: Thank you. If you need me, just call me, and I’ll be there immediately.

David: Yeah, sure!

(The deer leaves. David sits on the ground. He sees an ant trapped under a branch)

Ant: Help me, please.

(David takes off the branch)

Ant: Thank you. If you need me, just call me, and I’ll be there immediately.

David: Yeah, sure! That’s what the deer said. We’ll see if that’s true.

(David walks and stands near a river. He sees a fish in the ground)

Fish: I have been here for three days… I will die soon.

(David takes the fish and throws it into the water)

Fish: Thank you. If you need me, just call me, and I’ll be there immediately.

(The fish leaves. David keeps walking)

David: Is this a conspiracy, or what? The three of them told me the same thing!

(David arrives to a village. He stands outside the palace)

David: It’s so beautiful!

(The king approaches him)

King George: Would you like to go inside?

David: Yes, I would … but… you’re King George!

King George: Ha, ha, ha…. Yes, I am. Come with me, I’ll show you the palace.

(They walk to the palace)

David: But you don’t know me.

King George: It’s true, but for what I can see… you’re a hunter. Do you consider yourself a strong man?

David: Yes, I do. Why are you asking?

King George: Because I have an assignment for you, but I must warn you…it won’t be easy.

David: Mmmm… sounds interesting.

(They enter the palace, and go into the Living Room)

King George: Sit down.

(The King and David sit down. The Princess enters)

David: I want you to meet my daughter, Princess Klea.

(David stands up and kisses her hand)

David: People say you are beautiful, but you really look like an angel.

Princess Klea: Who are you?

David: I am David.

Princess Klea: Well, thank you, David.

David: King George, with all due respect… I really would like to marry your daughter.

King George: Ha, ha, ha, many hunters wanted to marry her, and now they are my slaves.

David: Slaves? Why is that?

King George: Because they couldn’t complete three tasks. Remember what I told you… it won’t be easy.

David: Tell me what to do, and I’ll succeed. I’ll do it all for her!

King George: Slave! Bring me the boots!

(A slave enters with a pair of boots. The kings takes the boots and gives them to David. The slave leaves)

King George: Your first assignment will be …to put on these boots and return them to me in an hour… all worn out.

David: But their soles are made of iron!

King George: Do you want to do it? Yes… or no?

David: Yes, I want to do it.

King George: Then go to the forest right now, and good luck.

(David leaves and goes to the forest).

David: I have nothing to lose… they told me that if I needed help, they would come immediately. Now is the time! Deer, my friend! I need your help!

(The deer enters)

Deer: What can I do for you?

David: Put on these boots and wear them until they are all worn out.

(The deer puts on the boots and leaves running. David sits on the ground. The deer returns. David stands up and looks at the boots)

David: Thank you, my friend. Now give me what’s left of the boots…. my time is running out!

(The deer takes off the boots and gives them to David)

Deer: Good-bye.

(David leaves. He enters the palace. The king and the princess are in the living room)

King George: I wasn’t expecting you so soon!

(David gives him the boots)

King George: You succeeded the first task. Now let’s go to the garden.

(The king, the princess and David go to the garden. There are 5 bags of wheat grains on the ground)

King George: Slaves!

(Five slaves enter)

King George: Spread the wheat grains on the ground!

(Each slave takes a bag and spread the wheat grains on the ground. When they finish they leave)

King George: You should pick up each and every wheat and fill those bags once again. You have only an hour to do so.

Princess Klea: Father, he needs more time!

King George: An hour is enough. Let’s go.

David: Don’t worry princess. If I completed the first task, I can complete this one too.

(The king and the princess leave)

David: Ant, my friend. I need your help!

(The ant and an army of ants enter)

Ant: What can I do for you?

David: Please, help me pick up all the wheat grains.

Ant: Once you helped me, now it is my turn to help you. Ants, we have work to do!

Ants: We are ready! One… two… three!

(The ants pick up all the wheat grains on the ground and fill up the five bags)

David: Thank you!

Ant: Good-bye

(The ants leave. The king enters)

King George: Your time is up.

(The king sees the five bags of wheat)

King George: You did it… I never thought you would!

David: What is the last assignment?

King George: You have done very well so far. Follow me.

David: Where are we going now?

King George: To the river.

(The walk to the river).

King George: When I was a little boy, my father lost his ring in the river. I want you to find it before it gets dark. I’ll be back in an hour.

(The king leaves)

David: Fish, my friend. I need your help!

(A fish gets out of the water)

Fish: Here I am. What do you need?

David: I need the king’s ring. Please help me find it… the king will come back in an hour.

Fish: Do not worry. Stay here, I’ll be back with the ring.

(The fish leaves. He returns with the ring and gives it to David)

David: Thank you!

(The king and the princess enter. He sees the ring in David’s hand)

King George: You succeeded!

David: I told I would.

King George: You will marry my daughter. My palace and my slaves will also be yours.

David: Thank you, but from now on, there will be no slaves, they will be free men.

Princess Klea: Oh, David, you are a kind man. I am happy to be your wife.

(David and the princess hug)

Scene I – In Japan- in a Farm

(The farmer’s wife is packing his suitcase. He is going on a business trip)

Wife: I will miss you. You will be away from home for a long time.

Farmer: I will miss you too… but you know this trip is important for us. Finally someone is willing to buy all the rice we have in the barn. I promise you that I will bring you and my daughter precious gifts.

(The farmer’s wife closes the suitcase)

Wife: Well, that’s it.

(The farmer takes the suitcase)

Farmer: It’s time for me to go.

Wife: Please, come home as soon as you can.

Farmer: I will.

(They go to the door. They hug, and the farmer leaves. His wife waves good-bye)

Wife: May God bless you.

Scene II – In the Farm

(The farmer’s wife and his mother are in the kitchen. The farmers enters the house)

Farmer: I’m back!

(His wife and his mother run to the door. His wife hugs him)

Wife: Oh, you’re back. How was your trip?

Farmer: It’s was better than I expected. Mother, it’s good to see you!

Farmer’s Mother: I came to see how your wife and my granddughter were doing while you were on your business trip.

Farmer: Thank you mother for taking care of my family while I was away.

(The farmer takes out a gift from his suitcase and gives it to his wife)

Farmer: Look what I brought you!

(His wife unwraps a gift. It is a mirror)

Wife: What is it?

(She takes the mirror in her hand, looks at her own reflection and starts to cry)

Farmer: Why are you crying?

Wife: Because you have brought home a beautiful woman! You don’t love me anymore.

Farmer’s Mother: Let me see!

(The farmer’s mother grabs the mirror and looks at her own reflection)

Farmer’s mother: Ha, ha,ha, you don’t have to worry dear… he brought home an ugly old lady.
