This play script was adapted from Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle book and Kidsinco’s version – “The Boy in the Jungle”. This has made my 4th grade class win in their school drama fest. Hope my revised version will be useful for you too.
NARRATOR 1: A long time ago, in the middle of the jungle, there was a big silence. Until suddenly, the tiger roared angrily. (sound of a roaring tiger)
*Curtains slowly opening*
NARRATOR 2: That night, there was a group of happy campers in the jungle. (show a group of campers in the stage while the tiger is watching them from afar)
*The campers will sing and dance around the campfire, “The Ants go marching”.
NARRATOR 3: The tiger was quietly watching the campers, especially the little boy who made him so hungry.
TIGER: Aha! They seem so happy! Just wait and see, I will eat that little boy. He looks so yummy!
NARRATOR 4: The boy got curious and started to wander away from the other campers. He then, found the wolves’ cave.
NARRATOR 1: As soon as Mother Wolf saw him, she took him inside the cave along with her cubs.
MOTHER WOLF: Why were you alone outside? You have to be careful! There is a hungry tiger somewhere hunting for food.
LITTLE BOY: But I was just taking a little walk from our camp.
MOTHER WOLF: Ssssshhhh try to be quiet. I’m sure the tiger must be around here. I know he can smell you already.
NARRATOR 2: A few minutes later, the tiger came to the cave.
TIGER:(Pushes the door furiously) Mother Wolf! Give me the little boy!
MOTHER WOLF: Never!! You will never be ever to lay a claw on him!
NARRATOR 3: The tiger knew how well protected the little boy was, so he decided to leave.
TIGER: Remember! Someday I shall return! I swear it!
NARRATOR 4: Mother Wolf took care of the little boy like her own. She even taught him how to howl like a wolf (wolves teaching the boy to howl)
NARRATOR 1: When the boy grew up, she introduced him to some other animals of the jungle. The jungle became the boy’s home.
(Animals lining up as being introduced to the boy)
MOTHER WOLF: This is the black panther. This is the great bear. This is the brave elephant. They are all our friends. Later, you will know many other animals in here.
NARRATOR 2: The three animals treated him dearly and they became his teachers.
NARRATOR 3: They taught him to listen and understand how the animals talk in the jungle.
NARRATOR 4: They also taught him to love, respect and to have fun with the other animal friends in the jungle, just like the Giraffe, the Rhinoceros, the Zebra, the Rabbit, the Eagle and the Snake.
*Intermission* They will all sing and dance to ‘Walking In The Jungle by Super Simple Songs’ (A wolf cub pretending to be a tiger)
ALL: Hoooray! Hooray! Such a happy day!
NARRATOR 1: One day, the boy asked the Eagle.
LITTLE BOY: Listen, Eagle! How is life over there in the sky?
EAGLE: Fantastic! From here I can see some animals that I will hunt to live.
NARRATOR 2: Then, he asked the Snake.
LITTLE BOY: How about you Snake? How do you spend your time?
SNAKE: SSSssss! I like to lie over the rocks and rest. SSSSsssss!
NARRATOR 3: And the boy asked the Giraffe.
LITTLE BOY: And you, what do you do to grow up so much, Giraffe?
GIRAFFE: I don’t know. My parents’ say that’s the way we are. At night we get together to eat all the leaves from the trees that nobody can reach!
NARRATOR 4: And the boy also asked the Zebra.
LITTLE BOY: Hey Zebra, what do you do to have fun?
ZEBRA: I run and run throughout the jungle. Nobody runs as fast as I do!
NARRATOR 1: He then asked the Rhino.
LITTLE BOY: I always wonder why do you have that big horn?
RHINO: It is my protection from the big animals who want to harm me.
NARRATOR 2: Finally, he asked the Rabbit.
LITTLE BOY: What do you eat to jump so high and run so fast?
RABBIT: Good question! I eat many carrots and I exercise every day!
LITTLE BOY: It was nice chatting with you all but it is getting late now. I need to get back to the cave. I will see you all tomorrow! Good night!
GIRAFFE, ZEBRA, RHINO, RABBIT, SNAKE, EAGLE: Good night! Be careful!
NARRATOR 3: A few days later, while the boy was taking a nap, there were three very funny and jealous monkeys watching and talking outside the cave.
MONKEY 1:(monkey sounds) SSssshhh be quiet you two! This is our chance to take the boy away from the jungle!
MONKEY 2:(monkey laughing) We will no longer see that brat! He is taking away our friends!
MONKEY 3:(monkey sounds) Come on guys! We need to hurry before they see us!
*(More monkeys will come and will cover the boy with a blanket)*
LITTLE BOY: Hello! Who are you? Help me! Somebody help!
*Intermission* The Leader Monkey will sing, “I Wanna Be Like You”, the other monkeys will dance around.
Now I’m the king of the swingers
Oh, the jungle VIP
I’ve reached the top and had to stop
And that’s what’s botherin’ me
I wanna be a man, mancub
And stroll right into town
And be just like the other men
I’m tired of monkeyin’ around!
Oh, oobee doo
I wanna be like you
I wanna walk like you
Talk like you, too
You’ll see it’s true
someone like me
Can learn to be human too
NARRATOR 4: The eagle saw what happened, and he quickly went to see his friends to organize a rescue.
EAGLE: Attention, everybody! We need to rescue the little boy from the monkeys!
RHINO: We need to have a great plan to save our friend!
GIRAFFE: I have an idea!
RABBIT: What is it?
GIRAFFE: The monkeys are scared of the snake, aren’t they?
EAGLE: That’s it! We have to go see the snake now!
NARRATOR 1: So they went to see the Snake.
PANTHER: Hello! Anybody home?
RABBIT: Our friend, Snake! We need your help!
SNAKE: Ssssss! Sssss! Yes, yes I am here. What’s the matter my friends?
ELEPHANT: The monkeys took the boy prisoner!
ZEBRA: And we need your help to save him!
SNAKE: Huh? SSSsssssss! Where did they take him?
BEAR: They took him in the old abandoned city.
SNAKE: Alright then, ssssssSSS! let’s go save the boy! SSSSsssss!
NARRATOR 2: When they arrived in the city, the Snake angrily chased the monkeys while the other animals ran to set free the poor little boy. (Show the action of the animals rescuing the boy)
MOTHER WOLF: You are safe now, my boy!
SNAKE: Ssss! Ssssss! Let’s celebrate!
*Intermission* All animal friends sing and dance to “Down in the Jungle where nobody goes”
NARRATOR 3: Meanwhile, as they are celebrating, the hungry Tiger appeared.
TIGER: At last, I found you! You are mind now, little boy! I will eat you! Rooooaaar!
NARRATOR 4: The Tiger jumped over the boy, but the Panther got in the middle and covered the boy to protect him. The Zebra ran and kicked the Tiger. Then the Bear, the Elephant and the Snake approached the Tiger.
PANTHER: You are stronger than each of us. But take a closer look, there are many of us against you!
NARRATOR 1: The animal friends jumped over the Tiger but he managed to escape quickly.
TIGER: I will never come back! I promise! I will never come back again!
RABBIT, EAGLE, SNAKE AND THE WOLF CUBS: HaHaHaHa! Good-bye Tiger!
GIRAFFE, ZEBRA, RHINOCEROS: Such a coward Tiger!
NARRATOR 2: And so the boy and his friends finally lived happily in peace.
*Closing Performance* “Walking Through the Jungle”
