Scene I – In Dave’s Bedroom
(Dave is in his bed at night looking at the moon through the window)
Moon: Dave, how come you’re not sleeping?
Dave: Because you’re looking at me.
Moon: Then, I won’t look at you anymore.
(A cloud covers the moon. Dave closes his eyes and goes to sleep. He has a nightmare and starts to cry)
Moon: Hey! Wake up!
(Dave opens his eyes)
Moon: Why are you crying?
Dave: Because I was dreaming that you went to a very far place and that I wasn’t able to see you anymore.
Moon: Look at me… here I am!
Dave: I can hardly open my eyes… I’m so sleepy and I can’t see you.
Moon: Then come to me.
Dave: How can I go there if you are so high in the sky?
Moon: Walk through my rays.
Dave: Oh, your rays look like a silver highway!
(Dave starts to walk toward the moon.)
Dave: Now you look so big! Your eyes look like enormous lakes… your nose looks like a huge mountain… and your mouth looks like a deep valley! I’m scared!
(Dave runs back. He falls down and starts to cry. His parents enter the room)
Mother: Dave, what happened to you?
Dave: I fell down from the moon.
Father: Ha, ha, ha, ha.
(Dave stands up)
Dave: My head hurts.
(Dave’s mother touches his head)
Mother: Don’t worry… you’ll be fine. Go to bed again and try to sleep… and please, don’t ever go to the moon. It’s too high for a small boy like you!
Dave: Yes, mom, I promise.
(Dave gets in bed and closes his eyes. His parents leave the room)
