SCRIPT:

(The crowd  may be standing  or seated.  There is a table and a chair in the center of the stage.  Jesus is standing on the right side of the table giving his back to the audience)

ACT 1

CAIAPHAS: I am Caiaphas, Jewish High Priest. I have come to judge this man who claims to be the Messiah.  Are there any witnesses to this blasphemy?.

(Witness 1, 2, and 3 stand up)

WITNESS 1: We heard him say that he could destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days.

WITNESS 2: That is true.

WITNESS 3: He said he was the Son of God

CAIAPHAS: Blasphemy!. That’s enough.  And what do you have to say?.

CROWD: He is guilty!.  He is guilty!.

(The crowd leaves with Caiaphas to Pilate’s palace)

ACT 2

(Caiaphas and the Crowd enter Pilate´palace.  Pilate enters from the left side and sits on the chair)

PILATE: I am Pilate, the governor of this province, you have brought me this man to be judged.

(The Crowd is shouting)

PILATE: Are you the king of the Jews?.

JESUS: Are you asking this on your own or did someone tell you about me?.

PILATE: You know I’m not a Jew!. Your own people and the chief priests brought you to me. What have you done?.

JESUS: My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.

PILATE: Are you a king then?.

JESUS: You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.

PILATE: What is truth?. (Pilate stand up and talks to the crowd) I find no crime in this man.  I will therefore chastise him and release him.

CROWD: No, no!. He is guilty!. Crucify him, crucify him!.  He offended Caesar!.

PILATE: You have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you want me to release to you this man who claims to be the King of the Jews, or the criminal called Barabbas?.

CROWD: Crucify him!.

CAIAPHAS: If you let this man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.

PILATE: Then, decide!.  Jesus or Barabbas!.

CROWD: Release Barabbas!.  Barabbas!.

(Two soldiers enter stage with Barabbas and stand on the left side)

PILATE: Now, who should I released?.

CROWD: Barabbas!.  We want Barabbas!.

PILATE: And what should I do with this man?.

CROWD: Crucify him!. Crucify him!.

PILATE: Your demand will be granted.  Soldier!.  Bring me some water!. (Soldier 1 brings some water and Pilate washes his hands) I am innocent of this man’s blood. It is now your responsibility. Soldiers! Give them Jesus!

(Pilate leaves stage, and two men from the crowd take Jesus and he faces the audience)

JESUS: I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  Today my Father´s Will is being fulfilled.  The Cross is waiting for Me.
