THE BOX FULL OF KISSES
CHARACTERS:
FATHER
SOPHIE
SCRIPT:
ACT 1
(Sophie is on the floor trying to wrap a gift box with a roll of golden wrapping paper. Her father is in the sofa reading the newspaper. He looks at her and gets angry)
FATHER: Sophie… what do you think you’re doing?.
SOPHIE: I’m wrapping a gift for….
(Her father interrupts her. He stands up, leaves the newspaper on the sofa, and approaches Sophie)
FATHER: Give me that!. This wrapping paper is very expensive. You know that we don’t have enough money, and you’re wasting it!.
SOPHIE: But dad, I need to finish wrapping this gift… I want to put it under the Christmas Tree.
FATHER: Christmas Tree?. You want to put that box under the Christmas Tree?. Let me see it.
SOPHIE: No, dad, please!.
FATHER: I knew it!. Where did you get the money to buy a gift?.
SOPHIE: I don’t have any money… I’m sorry, dad.
FATHER: Sorry is not enough. Go to your room… now!.
SOPHIE: (crying) But… dad…
FATHER: I’ll see you in the morning.
SOPHIE: Good night, dad.
FATHER: And don’t forget your box!.
(Sophie takes the box and leaves the stage. Her father picks up the roll of wrapping paper and puts it inside the closet. He turns off the light and leaves the stage)
ACT 2
(Sophie’s father is in the kitchen fixing breakfast. Sophie enters the stage, kisses her father on the cheek, and gives him the box)
SOPHIE: This is for you, dad. Open it.
FATHER: For me?. (He opens the box and when he sees that it’s empty, he gets angry) What kind of joke is this?.
SOPHIE: Oh, no, dad… it’s not a joke.
FATHER: When you give a gift to someone, you’re supposed to put something inside!.
SOPHIE: (crying) Oh, dad, it’s not empty.
FATHER: No?. Then I must be blind!.
SOPHIE: I blew kisses inside the box. They are all for you, dad!.
FATHER: (hugs Sophie and cries) Oh…Please, forgive me!.
SOPHIE: Don’t cry, dad.
FATHER: I’ll keep this box forever… and when I feel lonely, I’ll take a kiss from the box…
SOPHIE: And you will remember how much I love you!.
